Is my pool leaking or just evaporating?

Place a bucket of pool water on a step and mark the water level inside the bucket and on the pool. Compare the drop over 1 to 2 days, and account for rainfall and splash-out. If the pool drops faster than the bucket, you likely have a leak. Other signs are constant autofill, wet ground by the pad, air in the returns, and a level that drops overnight. Call 817-339-6770.

Pool pump leaking

A shaft seal, a lid O-ring, a union, or a threaded fitting can leak at the pump. Leaking from the bottom usually means the shaft seal. Leaking at a union is the fitting. Repair the seal or the fitting before replacing the pump. Call 817-339-6770.

Leaks at valves, filters, and heater fittings

Valve stems and diverters, filter tank O-rings and clamps, and heater unions can leak on the equipment pad. See pool heater repair. Call 817-339-6770.

Pad plumbing and suction-side air leaks

Cracked PVC on the pad, a loose union, or air in the pump basket is a suction-side air leak. Repair the cracked pipe or the loose union before replacing the pump. Call 817-339-6770.

Underground line leak repair.

Underground line leak repair. When the pool loses water and the pad is dry, the leak is often in a buried suction or return line. We pinpoint the leak, then our crew repairs it, opening only the section of deck or yard needed to reach it. Call 817-339-6770.

Pool shell and crack leak repair.

Pool shell and crack leak repair. Leaks can sit at a crack in the shell, a skimmer body, a light niche, a return fitting, or a main drain. We pinpoint the leak, then our crew repairs it. Call 817-339-6770.

What leak detection costs

Pool leak detection is $850 for a pool or a pool and spa. That covers one filter pump and a cleaner pump. Each additional pump is $400.

Water features

Water features may not be testable. If the builder put valves behind the water feature wall that can be shut off, we pressure test the lines from those valves back to the equipment. Without those valves, the water feature can't be pressure tested. In that case we test everything else, and if there's no leak, we close the water feature valves on the equipment side or stop running the features for a week to see whether the pool still loses water. If it still loses water, the leak is in the water feature. We then find it by taking apart parts of the feature (usually the stonework) and repair the facade. Water feature leak finding and facade repair are bid case by case.

Disclaimer

Leak detection is a diagnostic service. We test your pool's shell, plumbing, and equipment to locate the source of water loss. Some leaks take more than one visit to pinpoint, and normal evaporation is not a leak. The detection fee applies whether or not a leak is found. Our detection price covers one pool, or a pool and attached spa, with one filter pump and one cleaner pump. Each additional pump is an add-on, and water features are quoted separately. Repairs are quoted after diagnosis and start only after you approve the estimate. Underground line repairs may require cutting concrete or digging. Restoring decking, landscaping, or other surfaces is included only if it's listed on your estimate. See our Terms of Service for full details.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my pool is leaking or just evaporating?

Place a bucket of pool water on a step and mark both water levels. Compare the drop over one or two days. If the pool drops faster than the bucket, you likely have a leak. Constant autofill, wet ground by the pad, air in the returns, or a level that drops overnight are other signs. Call 817-339-6770.

Why is my pool pump leaking?

A pump that leaks from the bottom often has a worn shaft seal. A drip at a union or a threaded fitting is a loose or failed connection, and a wet lid often means the lid O-ring. Repair the seal or fitting before replacing the pump. Call 817-339-6770.

My pool loses water only when the pump runs. What does that mean?

Water loss only while the pump runs usually means a pressure-side leak on the equipment pad or in a return line. Loss that continues when the pump is off usually means the suction side or the shell. Call 817-339-6770 and describe how fast the level drops.
