Pool pump won't start

A pump that hums but won't start often has a failed capacitor or a seized motor. One that's silent may have a tripped breaker, timer or wiring fault. We test the electrical side first, repair what failed, and replace the motor only if needed.

Pool pump won't prime

A pump that won't prime is usually pulling air: a low water level, a clogged basket, a cracked lid, a worn lid O-ring, or a leak on the suction side. We find the air leak, repair it, and get the pump primed and running again.

Loud pump (failed motor bearings)

A screeching or grinding pump usually means the motor bearings have failed, and that calls for a motor swap. Rattling can mean debris in the impeller or a pump starved for water. We find the cause, clear the impeller when that's the problem, and swap the motor when the bearings are gone.

Shaft seal leak (water under the pump)

Water dripping between the motor and the pump housing usually points to a worn shaft seal. Left alone, water can reach the motor and ruin its bearings. We replace the shaft seal and the O-rings on the pump plates and housing, then check the motor. If the pool itself is losing water, call 817-339-6770 about leak detection.

Pump trips the breaker

A pump that trips the breaker may have a shorted motor, a failed capacitor or wet wiring. It's booked as a standard service call. The service call fee goes toward the labor for your repair. You only pay the service call if you decide not to go ahead with the repair. We find the fault, repair it, and swap the motor if it's shorted.

When we replace the pump instead

When the motor is burned out, the housing is cracked, or a repair would cost close to a new pump, we recommend replacement. When something needs replacing, we usually recommend Jandy. As a Jandy ProEdge builder and dealer and an Authorized Jandy ProEdge Warranty Station, we can give you a 3-year warranty on new Jandy equipment. The choice is always yours, though. If you'd rather stay with your current brand, we'll supply and install that instead. Jandy's current pumps include the VS FloPro (1.3 to 3.8 HP), the VS PlusHP 2.7 HP and the ePump (2.7 and 3.8 HP); the right model depends on your pool's size, plumbing and features. We service and repair all pool equipment brands, including Jandy, Pentair, and Hayward. We are an Authorized Jandy ProEdge Warranty Station and can also help with Pentair and Hayward warranty claims.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you repair my pool pump instead of replacing it?

Often, yes. Capacitors, shaft seals, pump O-rings, lids and impellers can usually be repaired or replaced on their own. Failed motor bearings mean a motor swap, not a new pump. We recommend a new pump when the housing is cracked or a repair won't last. Call 817-339-6770.

Why won't my pool pump prime?

Most pumps that won't prime are pulling in air. Check the water level, empty the pump and skimmer baskets, and make sure the lid is tight. If it still won't prime, a cracked lid, worn O-ring or suction-side leak is likely. Call 817-339-6770.

Why is my pool pump so loud?

A high-pitched screech or grinding usually means the motor bearings have failed, which calls for a motor swap. Rattling can mean debris in the impeller or a pump running without enough water. Failing bearings get worse quickly, so a loud pump is worth checking soon. Call 817-339-6770.

Why is my pool pump leaking?

Water between the motor and the pump body usually means a worn shaft seal. We replace the shaft seal and the O-rings on the pump plates and housing. If the pool keeps losing water while the pump stays dry, call 817-339-6770 about leak detection.

Why does my pool pump keep tripping the breaker?

A shorted motor, a failed capacitor or wet wiring can all trip the breaker. Leave the breaker off and don't keep resetting it. It's booked as a standard service call. The service call fee goes toward the labor for your repair. You only pay the service call if you decide not to go ahead with the repair. Call 817-339-6770.

What brands of pool pump do you work on?

We service and repair all pool equipment brands, including Jandy, Pentair, and Hayward. We are an Authorized Jandy ProEdge Warranty Station and can also help with Pentair and Hayward warranty claims. For a replacement, Jandy's current pumps include the VS FloPro and the ePump.
